Many people are very interested in using those cute smileys and want to know how to use them in their WordPress websites. Wordress has similar set of smileys as Facebook.
What are Smileys?

Smileys, also known as “emoticons,” are glyphs used to convey emotions in your writing. They are a great way to brighten up posts.

What Text Do I Type to Make Smileys?

By default, WordPress automatically converts text smileys to graphic images. Text smileys are created by typing two or more punctuation marks. Below are some Smiley images and the text used to produce them. In some instances, multiple text options are available to display the same smiley.

If you qualify all of the following criteria, you can consider yourself a Social Media Gurus.

Knows how to create a Facebook page

Knows how to post a tweet

The #1 and #2 are not that difficult. The #3 one is very challenging for most small business owners. By reading over 30 blogs a week/month will definitely give you insight/inspiration on what to blog about in your own blog.

It normally looks like this “Copyright © 2013 SmallBiz Web Design” in our case. Depending on how your web designer coded your website, the copyright year may be changed automatically on new year’s eve or may stay the same. It might not be a legal acquirement to update the copyright year on your website, but it’s a good idea to keep it up to date. Keeping your website up to date makes your business look more reliable and trustworthy in your clients’ eyes. This is something that’s often overlooked by small business owners.

If there is only one thing you want to do in January, that’s to check your copyright year on your website. If it’s still showing 2012 or even 2011, you might want it updated to 2013. To make the copyright year automatically updated each year, a JavaScript or PHP script has to be inserted into your website’s HTML code. If you don’t know how to do this, we are here to help. Contact us at info@smallbizwebdesign.ca, we will make your life easier.

We all know that social media networking is a big thing. Do you know what people share most on social networking sites? Check out the following infographic:

Tweeters share photos more than anything else, and pics make up more than a third of all links shared on the social network. Articles make up just 16% of shares, while videos come in at just under 10%. I bet Facebook users share photos more than anything else too.

If you know what people are sharing, you can apply the same tactic to your own social media marketing activities – focus on what people like to share – image of your products, portfolios or clients; articles of your own or from other sites, etc.

We are planning to share more images of our projects on our Facebook and Twitter profile. How about you? Feel free to share any tips on how to use social media to market your small business.

Facebook Statistics

It’s absolutely necessary to get a presence on this free social media site if you are running a small business. Your Facebook page is a complement of your business website.

You can integrate your Facebook page with your website so that when you publish a blog post on your website, it will automatically show up on your Facebook page as well.

Also, add a “Like” button on you blog post – when people “Like” your blog post, an update will display on their Facebook wall, which will attract more attention/visits to your Facebook page.
